The Selkie created herself from things lost to the sea- bibs an bobs that are meaningless come together to form a mythical new being. I wondered how things come into being- how much do we self-invent and how much are we invented by others or the universe at large. But I've always anthropomorphized. You're talking about a kid who would apologize to the fence before I climbed it. So could a creature of mystery not pull herself together out of the flotsam and jetsam of centuries, weaving their stories into one new being?
Selkie is an assemblage piece, using an original drawing on shrink film, wire and found objects. She comes mounted on a wood block base (not shown here) and she is about 6-7" high without the base.
